As a sensitive, I am keenly aware when I feel good doing something and when I don’t. Much of life often happens in the neutral area, and there are various levels and layers where I move on the scale of “good” or “bad.”
A moment occurred a couple of years ago when I was directing my first short film, ‘One Day,’ where I felt ‘in the pocket’ of goodness.
In case you don’t know, “in the pocket” is a musical term that means you’re in tempo and in the groove of the music you’re playing. It’s a feeling where everything flows beautifully, and you’re hitting all the right moments. You’re in your element.
As director of the film, I managed various aspects of the day, working with the crew and my lead actor. I remember it was about midday, and I had just left the actor’s room after discussing the next costume change, and I was bouncing down the stairs to speak with the cinematographer about the next shot set-up. I felt like I was flying!
My body felt light, my heart was soaring, and it felt completely natural.
I loved collaborating with multiple people, solving problems, and getting excited about the next bit of art we were going to capture.
To some, being pulled in different directions and answering questions about next steps, in a time-crunched atmosphere, might feel overwhelming. But I was blissful!!! To me, it felt engaging, and every moment was an opportunity for discovery.
As a sensitive, it's pivotal to pay attention to moments that feel good and give “meant for me” energy. That way, you can make a concerted effort to include them in your life. It is valuable information!
What about you? When have you felt “in the pocket” while you were doing something? Where were you absolutely in the right place, at the right time, doing something you felt so excited and comfortable about? Write it down, or voice note it, so you can remember. Steps in that direction can help us understand what we’re meant to be doing and where our gifts lie.
